Tourism & Hospitality
Murrindindi Shire hosts an estimated one million visitors annually, generating $128 million per annum and making tourism and hospitality major contributors to the local economy.
For decades the abundant natural resources have been utilised by local businesses to develop what is now a strong tourism sector, with Marysville and the surrounding areas of Alexandra and Eildon alone bringing in over 800,000 visitors per year. Around 50% of the Shire is crown land with many national and state parks and reserves accessible to cyclists, walkers and horse-riding enthusiasts; activities that have opened up a broad range of investment options.
Lake Mountain Alpine Resort, accessed via Marysville, attracts thousands of visitors during both the snow season and the green season. This area is rapidly growing as a short-stay destination, with an accompanying demand developing for additional accommodation, touring, transport and food services.
Tourism presents significant opportunities to be an even more critical generator of revenue for local businesses. In particular, opportunities exist for investment in boutique luxury accommodation, nature-based and adventure tourism and further development of the international, backpacker and discerning, active ‘grey nomad’ touring markets.
